Together since 2015, Nick and I never planned on getting married or having a wedding.
After dating about 8 months, he asked me if I wanted to move to San Francisco with him. Our leases were both coming up and it just felt right, so we made the move. The move didn't last, but thankfully we did.
Living somewhere you both hate, together, creates a deep emotional bond. However, during our time there, I worked in jewelry and unfortunately for Nick, now I wanted a diamond.
Fast forward to Memorial Day 2018, watching a Bali sunrise after 20+ hours of travel. We set up a time lapse like we always did on beach trips. I looked over and thought Nick was itching his butt, but something was stuck in his pocket. He struggled for a moment and then pulled out a box with the ring of my dreams.
A couple years later, I convinced Nick that I needed a wedding band. For some reason, I wasn't appearing off the market with only my engagement ring (I was working in menswear where being hit on is inevitable... wait, that's how we met) and I was sick of being asked when the wedding was from everyone else!
I got him a ring that year, too. Every man's dream, right?
The questions never stopped, just changed. Now, all I heard was "when was your wedding!?" "wait, when did y'all get married?"
After this weekend, we can answer those meaningless questions with a date and talk about the party of the year instead of a long explanation of why we're too cool for a wedding and don't need the government involved in our relationship ;)
Thank you for your love, support and patience over the years, and thank you for traveling to do this with us!
A reminder that your presence is your present - no gifts. Let's party!
